The New York Jets “had talks” with Aaron Rodgers on Monday
The New York Jets spoke with Aaron Rodgers on Monday. This news came from Trey Wingo just after midnight. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic and Connor Hughes of SNY, among others, have since confirmed the report.
In the initial report, Wingo shared that “nothing is forthcoming” but that “Rodgers is open to the idea” of coming to the Jets. As Rosenblatt pointed out, Rodgers has yet to make a formal decision on what he wants to do. Hughes reports that the Packers will give him what he wants and the expectation is that he will soon let them know.
Could a strike soon trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets?
As ESPN’s Rich Cimini just pointed out, the fact that Gates and Rodgers spoke yesterday means the Jets have permission to talk to him, otherwise it would be in vain. Also, this permission is not granted unless both parties agree to offset the trade.
So, for now, we wait and hope for the best. First, that Rodgers is already set to play football in 2023. From there, he wants to be traded. Next, he’s interested in coming to the Jets, and finally, trade compensation can be sorted in terms of money and draft picks by the Jets and Packers.
Finally, this morning, Rodgers’ teammate, Aaron Jones, was playing Good Morning Football. Jones was asked where he would like to see Rodgers if he was to be dealt with. He said, “He can come over here, to the Jets. … He’s in New York, he’s a star. … Reunion with Hackett, someone he knows.” It certainly looks as though the Jets have a good chance of landing Rodgers here. Now, they must do so.
