The PSOL bench filed a criminal complaint in the STF against Nicholas

The PSOL bench of the House has just filed a criminal report at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) against Bolsonaro MP Nicolas Ferreira (PL-MG). He is accused of transphobia.

The MP used the podium to attack transgender women this Wednesday, the 8th, International Women’s Day. He stated that “women give way to men who feel like women”. He also wore a wig and joked. “I feel like a woman today, Congresswoman Nicole.”

“I defend your freedom. The freedom, for example, of a father refusing a six-foot-tall, grown man to enter his daughter’s bathroom without being labeled a transphobe. Freedom for women, for example, who lose their place in sports, lose their place even in beauty pageants, gentlemen. And just think about this. the person who feels something simply forces you,” he said in his speech.

The PSOL initiative is led by Erica Hilton (SP), the first ever transgender MP, alongside Duda Salabert (PDT-MG). Both were elected last year.

Crime news claims that Nicolas Ferreira tried to “humiliate and shame the entire transgender population” and that the deputy’s statements increase the risk of violence against transgender people.

The MPs also claim that the speech is “offensive”, “criminal” and “makes gender minorities even more vulnerable”. “It aims to show discrimination and make fun of transgenders and transvestites,” the document says.

Nicholas Ferreira is already responding to the lawsuit, saying that he will only call MP Duda Salabert “he”. “He is a human being. That’s what’s on his certificate, no matter what he thinks,” he said in a December 2020 interview, when both were Belo Horizonte councilors.

In 2019, the STF equated transphobia with the crime of racism. According to the decision, anyone who discriminates against transgender people can be sentenced to up to five years in prison.
