The Senate Economic Affairs Committee is due to vote this week on the nomination of the president of the Central Bank. Roberto Campos Neto, so that the executive can explain the body’s current interest rate policy. Senator Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO) and members of the commission are awaiting the approval of an invitation to be voted on next Tuesday, the 14th, for Campos Neto to speak about the Selic – the base interest rate. In recent weeks, the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) issued several criticisms against the representative of the Central Bank regarding the high interest rates – which are currently at 13.75% – and about Campos Neto’s relationship with the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). There is suspicion that the head of the economic body would act in an attempt to thwart Lula’s rule since the PT took his third presidential term at the helm of Planalto. Roberto replied that he had no interference and that his actions would occur naturally, except that he would be ready to answer any question or invitation of Lula for a conversation. The head of the federal executive, however, did not accept or make an offer for a conversation between the two. Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), began to greet the president of the Central Bank. Even with the reduction of Lula’s attacks on Campos Neto, the PT has questions about the performance of the head of Baceni. The senators’ expectation is to clarify and resolve doubts about the interest rate and the activities of Campos Neto.
