Three suspects arrested with four guns

Three suspects, including two women, were arrested in Tenbisa, east of Johannesburg, for possession of four firearms and ammunition.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Spokesperson Lt Col Kelebogile Thepa details the joint intelligence-driven operation (JMPD) between the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Professional Task Force and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department at approximately 15:15 on Tuesday 11 October 2022 ) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Highway Patrol arrested three suspects in possession of four firearms and ammunition.

Colonel Thepa said law enforcement officers followed a suspicious motor vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz with three (3) passengers, and stopped it at Zephaniah Lane in the Welambo district of Tembisa.

“During a search of the vehicle, the passenger was found to be in possession of four (4) firearms of different brands, namely CZ Star; CZ Flywheel; CZ P-07 and Vector with all serial numbers on file, and eleven (11) live rounds.”

She added that two 32-year-old women and a 43-year-old male suspect were immediately arrested and detained at Tembisa police station.

The trio are expected to appear at Tembisa Magistrates Court soon, according to reports.

In a related story, an intelligence-driven operation in Cape Town, led by members of the National Intervention Team and Criminal Intelligence, achieved a major breakthrough by apprehending four suspects on suspicion of preparing for a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Eersterivier , Western Cape, Friday morning, 14 October 2022.

The suspect was found in possession of three firearms, including two R5 rifles with two magazines and 50 live rounds, and a revolver, according to police. Serial numbers of all firearms are on file. A white Nissan NP200 with fake license plates was also confiscated.
