Short-form video service TikTok is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to find out why a particular video appeared in the recommendation stream. The developers believe that this innovation will provide more context for the content displayed in the For You feed.
To use the new tool, simply click the Share button in the content control panel and select the question mark icon. After that, the user will see why he was recommended to watch a certain video. As a rule, the most frequently recommended content is based on the actions of users of the platform, so it makes perfect sense to show videos in the “For You” feed that are similar to those that have already been watched or liked. Additionally, videos can be recommended based on the preferences of who the user follows. Also, videos that are gaining popularity or have already become popular in the user’s region can often be recommended for viewing.
“This feature is one of the many ways we’re working to bring more transparency to users of our platform. It is based on a series of steps we take to achieve that goal. Going forward, we will continue to work on improving this feature to make content recommendations clearer and more transparent,” TikTok said in a statement.
