Travin Jones embraced the opportunity to fight the reigning champion.
LAS VEGAS, NV – UFC bantamweight heavyweight Travin Jones will take the opportunity to make a brief appearance against Cody Garbrandt at UFC 285 on Saturday night. and trying to turn his luck on the big stage
“MMA MMA people, I believe I fought some of the strongest guys. I believe many of my fights went into the UFC where I was supposed to have a big win. Many times they fell. And these people withdrew. UFC had no choice but to throw me in. That is what I believe,” Jones told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
Jones (13-9) got the best the UFC had to offer at 135 pounds to start the promotion stint. with a three-fight losing streak on his record. Jones looked for an opportunity to turn things around, then Julio Arce withdrew from his fight with Garbrandt.
seize the opportunity
“Cody lost an opponent. Everyone said the UFC was trying to get you out of there. So my manager slapped me. He said that Cody had lost his opponent. Do you want me to mix up your name? I say go ahead I didn’t think anything of it,” Jones said.
“Defeat, Cody was a former champion. And now we have arrived.”
Facing the former champions makes for a big fight this week for Jones.
“How many UFC champions do they have at 135, what four is the highest? To get a chance to fight with the former champion like… You may have 80 people on the roster, 90 people on the roster. You can’t fight the old champion. So this is definitely an important fight for me,” he said.
A former champion or not, no results are guaranteed in MMA, and Jones knew he had to make the most of this opportunity.
“I’m preparing for this fight. In short, I’m training. I just need to lose a lot of weight. That’s what I focused on. But I’ve been trained. Now I go to Fortis MMA, so I hope that makes a difference,” Jones said.
“There is a coach, a good game plan. And I believe I am ready for this fight.”
