Two shootings in Claremont overnight

One person was killed in two separate shootings in Claremont on Saturday night, July 23. The incidents reportedly occurred within minutes of both victims having their firearms seized.

First shooting on 1st Avenue

The first incident of the SAPS response occurred on 1st Avenue at approximately 21:19.

TimesLIVE reported that SAPS spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooy revealed that upon arrival, police found a man with a gunshot wound in the vehicle. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital.

“The victim is believed to have been disarmed in the process. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment,”

Warrant Officer Swatboy said.

The second incident occurred at Herschel Close

Around 21:50, SAPS responded to another shooting at Herschel Close in Claremont. There, they found the body of an unnamed man who also suffered gunshot wounds – who was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

“They found the body of an unknown person with gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. We have reason to believe that the unidentified suspect disarmed the victim in the process, “

Swatboy explained.

He also revealed that the suspect is still at large, adding that SAPS is investigating attempted murder, gun robbery and murder.

NAKED couple brutally shot dead in KZN bed

Meanwhile, a naked couple was reportedly brutally shot dead in their bed in KwaZulu-Natal. The couple’s bullet-riddled bodies were found by neighbours in their rented room in cotton fields.

The motive for the murder remains unknown. The 32-year-old was shot in the head and four times in the body. His 30-year-old girlfriend was shot in the head, stomach and four times in the left arm.

According to Prem Balram, spokesman for the South African Response Force (RUSA), neighbours found the couple hours after hearing a barrage of gunfire. The door to the room they rented was forcibly opened, he said. Read the full story here.
