UFC announces Charles Oliveira-Islam Makhachev for the vacant lightweight title

Today at UFC Long Island, the promotion announced a massive fight that will drop in October. On the ABC broadcast, the promotion announced that former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (33-8, 1 NC) will face Islam Makhachev (22-1) for the vacant lightweight title in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi tag will drop on October 22 at UFC 280 and marry the top two lightweights in the UFC. Also in this fight, we will see two men take each other and both will hold huge winning streaks in the octagon. As for Islam Makhachev, he will hold a ten-time winning streak.

The last time we saw Makhachev back was in February when he faced Bobby Green at the UFC Fight Night main event. Makhachev did what he had to do and ran across Bobby Green. No one even had a competitor with my Lord Khabib. Makhachev continues to look better and better and could present some serious problems for the Doo Bronx.

UFC Lightweight Champion

Let’s be totally honest here, the UFC Lightweight Champion is vacant, but everyone knows who the Lightweight Champion is. Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira. Oliveira landed a wide-ranging raw deal at UFC 274 when he faced Justin Gethje. On the scale, Oliveira came in at 0.5 pounds.

Had this fight been in Vegas, they would have put his name at 155. But the Arizona heavyweights stripped Oliveira of his title. However, Oliveira still went out there and did what he had to do. The Do Bronx introduced Justin Gaethje which marked his third straight victory.

In his last three fights, Oliveira finished off with Michael Chandler, Justin Gethje and Dustin Poirier. Simply put, Oliveira is the best lightweight in the world and should hold the UFC lightweight title. However, this fight would be another chance for him to prove that he was the best in the world.
