UFC targets Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez for UFC 290 International Fight Week on July 8.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The UFC featherweight bout between champion Alexander Volkanovski and interim champion Yair Rodriguez is aimed for UFC 290 to wrap up International Fight Week on July 8.
First reported by Fox Sports Australia.
UFC seems to have created a card. The blockbuster International Fight Week featuring Volkanovski and Rodriguez had no word on the headlines or co-headlines of the event as it was the first bout reported for UFC 290.
Volkanovski (25-2) is coming off his first defeat in 10 years after he dropped Islam Makhachev’s decision at UFC 284, which left him undefeated for a two-division title. Volkanowski picks up victory over defending champion Max Holloway three times and won over names like Jose Aldo, Brian Ortega and Chad Mendes.
Rodriguez (15-3) defeated Josh Emmett at UFC 284 to claim the interim featherweight title. Rodriguez defeated Ortega, Jeremy Stephens, BJ Penn and Dan Hooker.
UFC 290 is scheduled to take place on July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to cap off the festival. For the annual International Fight Week, fan events will run throughout the week culminating with PPV tickets that Saturday.
No other matches have been announced for UFC 290 as of this post.
