An underage driver was involved in a serious collision on Pretoria Road in Silverton, East Pretoria, on Sunday morning.
The two vehicles collided violently, with one vehicle veering into the median and hitting a metal pole.
Underage driver killed in collision east of Pretoria
According to Emer-G-Med, three male patients, all believed to be 16 years old, were found trapped in the wreckage of a vehicle wrapped around a utility pole.
The driver and one passenger in the car are in critical condition, and the third passenger is moderately injured.
“With the assistance of the Tshwane Fire Station and the Gauteng Provincial Government Rescue Team, the rescue process began to free the patient from the wreckage.
“Unfortunately, the underage driver died while trapped in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.”
Advanced life support paramedics at Emer-G-Med also used Jaws-of-Life to cut and place critically injured passengers on ventilators. Due to the nature of his injury, it was decided to airlift him to a waiting specialist facility.
The occupant of the other vehicle is said to have suffered only minor injuries.
