Unique GeForce RTX 4090 card put up for auction. She went for the big bucks
The EVGA GeForce RTX 4090 FTW3 card has not gone into mass production, but an engineering copy has been put up for charity auction. The unique ticket was sold for a really big sum.
The GeForce RTX 4090 card probably needs no introduction. EVGA planned to release its own version of such a card – model EVGA GeForce RTX 4090 FTW3 (officially called Next Gen Graphics), but in the end it was withdrawn from the market, and the equipment never went into mass production. After the plans, the accelerator prototypes remained. One of them was put on a charity auction.
EVGA GeForce RTX 4090 FTW3 sold at auction
The manufacturer has put up for auction a working prototype of the EVGA GeForce RTX 4090 FTW3 graphics card. And it is a unique auction, because it was decided that the proceeds from the sale will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the world’s leading hospital for pediatric cancer, especially acute leukemia.
Bidding was initially conducted on the eBay platform, but was moved to the manufacturer’s official forum. There were many willing to buy the “trinket”, but offers to buy were limited to residents of the United States and Canada.
The fight for a unique card was really fierce. The Next Gen Graphics prototype was sold at auction by user pentaxianhere for $12,400 (almost 8 times the value of regular GeForce RTX 4090 cards!).
The manufacturer’s initiative deserves recognition. The EVGA GeForce RTX 4090 FTW3 is a real rarity for computer enthusiasts, and the money raised will go to the noble cause of saving children. I wish there were more actions like this!
