US carrying out analysis to ensure it has enough ammunition stocks – US general – SABC News

The United States military is studying the velocity of munitions used in Russia’s war in Ukraine to ensure the Pentagon is accurately calculating the weapons it will need in the event of future conflicts or operations, the top US general said Tuesday.

Western officials have said Russia used up a significant portion of its precision munitions in its invasion of Ukraine, and its industry cannot produce all types of ammunition and weapons systems because of Western sanctions.

Ukraine, which is being armed by Western countries, is also rapidly using artillery and other types of ammunition.

The United States Army has contingency plans for potential conflicts around the world that include how many troops, pieces of equipment, and ammunition might be needed.

“We’re going through a study, an analysis right now to make sure that our military plans, our contingency plans, which we have multiple around the world in different theaters, to make sure that we’ve done the right math, the right assessments,” said Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley at an event.

“We will go back to the industry to take any corrective action … to make sure we have adequate stock levels for something that might happen,” Milley added.

The United States has said North Korea is secretly supplying Russia with a “significant” number of artillery shells for its war in Ukraine.

Russia has also purchased drones from Iran that have been used to attack cities and energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
